The RIP Files Series

During the decade that my husband, Sean, and I were paranormal investigators, it became increasingly clear that psychology played a starring role in many reported hauntings. In those ten years—first with an established ghost-hunting group, and then with our own team—we encountered more and more clients who were experiencing deep fear, family conflicts, emotional instability, and borderline delusion.

Over the years, I started to think about writing a book on ghost hunting from a psychological perspective. I wanted to reveal the truth about hauntings—that our inner demons often have far more influence on our perception of events than anything truly originating from the spirit world.

The more I thought about it, the more I became fascinated with the stories behind the fear. What was going on in the background that made our clients ignore things that easily explained what they were experiencing? What life experiences were so intense that they masked logical thinking?

For some of our cases, the line between true paranormal activity and fear-based reactions became blurred.

Three stories stood out in my mind, and I decided to write about them. Thus, The RIP Files was born.

The RIP Files: Case of the Demon Drums (Book One)

When Libbi and Walter Bean get a call from Sue Mackenzie claiming her house is possessed by demons, they can hardly keep from rolling their eyes. As founders of Roanoke Investigations of the Paranormal (RIP), they often weed through a lot of crazy to get to the legitimate cases.

Sue believes demons are responsible for maniacal drum solos, flying bibles, and rotten smells—which could all be signs of a haunting. But when she claims they are also corrupting her rebellious teenage daughter, the red flags start to fly.

But with a family in turmoil, Libbi and Walter agree to take on the case with the help of their crack investigation team:

Maya, the young psychology major who keeps a calm and level head.

Dana, the team psychic and sensitive who picks up energy and emotions from beyond the veil.

Stan, the over-zealous equipment guy who means well but fancies himself the judge, jury, and executioner of all things paranormal.

Is the house really possessed by demons? Or is there a logical explanation for the events? And will Sue and her daughter ever find peace?

The RIP Files: Case of the Demon Drums is a paranormal mystery that follows a full investigation from start to finish. It is a realistic portrayal of a ghost hunt, with unexpected twists, dark humor, and more than a touch of snark. Inspired by a real case worked by the author Beth Anne Campbell and her husband.
